Elite Panda Oranda 9-10cm
The photos are of the fish you will receive.
The Oranda Goldfish is one of the most popular goldfish in the world. It is favoured for its hood, a fleshy growth on the top of its head called the wen. The wen starts to show at about 3 - 4 months, but only really begins to form at about 1 - 2 years.
- Wen (Headgrowth): The defining feature, resembling a raspberry or crown, develops as they mature and is highly prized.
- Body: Deep, stout body, similar to a Ryukin but without the high back hump.
- Tail: Long, flowing, four-lobed (quadruple) tail.
- Colors: Numerous varieties including red cap, calico, chocolate, blue, panda, and tricolor.
- Size: Can grow large, often 8-12 inches (20-30 cm).
- Temperament: Peaceful, suitable for community tanks with other fancy goldfish
Care Considerations
- Tank: Large tanks with efficient filtration are essential due to their messy nature.
- Decor: Avoid sharp objects that could harm the wen; plants like Elodea are good but may be eaten.
- Water: Consistent, clean water is crucial; they prefer neutral to slightly alkaline conditions (pH 7.0-8.0) and temperatures around 65-75°F (18-24°C).
- Diet: Omnivores; high-protein diets and occasional peas (soaked) can aid digestion and wen development, but feed small amounts frequently as they lack a true stomach.
- Swimming: Slow swimmers; avoid housing with fast fish like Comets
