A Butterfly Moor goldfish is a fancy variety of Telescope goldfish, distinguished by its short body, large protruding eyes (like a Telescope) and exceptionally long, flowing, butterfly-wing-like fins, often appearing in colors like black, calico, red, or white, requiring a species-only tank due to being slow, peaceful, and prone to being out-competed by faster fish. They are omnivores needing a high-fiber diet (like blanched peas) to prevent constipation
Appearance
- Eyes: Large, telescopic, bulging eyes.
- Body: Short and stout.
- Fins: Very long, elegant, flowing fins that resemble butterfly wings; often the longest of all goldfish varieties.
- Color: Common colors include deep black (Black Moor), red/orange, white, and mottled calico patterns (like Panda Moors).
Temperament & Care
- Temperament: Peaceful and docile.
- Swimming: Slow and clumsy due to their ornate fins, making them poor competitors for food.
- Tank Mates: Best kept with other fancy goldfish (like Orandas, Ryukins) in a species-only tank to avoid fin nipping and food competition.
- Diet: Omnivorous, needing a varied diet of high-quality pellets/flakes supplemented with blanched vegetables (like peas) for fiber.
Key Considerations
- Digestive Issues: Prone to constipation, requiring fiber.
- Water Quality: Need excellent filtration and regular water changes.
- Origin: Descended from Asian goldfish breeding
